Chinese Herb to help with Running at Altitude?

An instructor recently mentioned that taking the herb formula Sheng Mai San several weeks before going to a higher elevation actually helps to deal with altitude. I'll have to test this out one day.

Name: Sheng Mai San "Generate Pulse Powder"
Ingredients:
Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) 33.33 %
Mai Men Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis Japonici) 33.33 %
Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis) 33.33 %

I have two races at altitude this summer (early june and late july). I want to test it out! Can you mix it up for me or can I buy that mix somewhere?

It seems like you can just buy a bottle at your local Chinese herb store if you have those things in your area. If not, let me know and I'll send one down. Just keep in mind, it might be contraindicated in some situations. But if you're strong and healthy, it doesn't seem like it would cause any problems. Let me know how it goes Ms Experiment of One. :)

hey stranger. :) great to hear from ya. sorry about the slow progress. i'd like to think good things come slowly. but once you are there, you can have all the fun in the world. :) I don't mean to be preachy, but please be patient. as hard as it sounds, that's your best ally. i've been in a similar boat as you on a smaller scale. i've had a hard time adjusting not able to run outside and not able to train hard because of the calf injury. had to remind myself that it's best to take time for the injury to heal rather than prolonging it. you'll be fine soon. we should do some hiking together now that you can get out.

the next race i am doing is diablo marathon. i originally planned to run diablo 50, but the injury set me back about a month. i plan on running ohlone in may and maybe do a 50k + 30K on my own to make it a 50 miler some time in late may early june. after june, i won't do any more races until cascade crest 100 in august. i am pretty excited. :)
