Trainus Interruptus

It's been over a week since my gardening debacle and I had my first successful gym trot on the treadmill this morning. Not quite 100% but feeling mobile and stronger. I'll definitely need some more time to get back to my pre-gardening body. But this week I am being given another hiatus from any serious form of exercise, which is fine, but I wish the circumstances were better. My cousin (dad's youngest sister' daughter) is in bad shape from her second bout with ovarian cancer. The Higuchi clan in the Bay Area is shuffling down, en masse, to the Los Angeles area to see how we can help. Sounds like they are now relying on any alternative therapy to help with her condition. Chemo is apparently no longer an option.

The following are chinese herbs that I will be taking down with me:
Ling Zhi Xia Cao Tea
Anticancer Lin (pills)

The following pills on their own have also been found to help:
Dong Chong Xia Cao (cordyceps)
Ling Zhi (japanese mushrooms)

And a kind friend just dropped off a book that he thinks is a good resource for prevention and therapy:
Outsmart Your Cancer (Alternative Non-Toxic Treatments That Work) by Tanya Harter Pierce

Cancer is a rare thing in my family. And because of who it has affected, it hits closer to home than any other illness that has befallen a relative or friend in recent years. I feel for my dad who I feel might be affected most by the injustice of a younger family member being stricken more ill than he in his late 70's But there is hope still. I'm mostly glad right now to be going down south to visit instead of just sitting miles away by the telephone. I have this idea that it will feel better to be useless 5 feet away versus useless over a 100 miles.

Useless is not the word I would use. More like very helpful and much appreciated.
Love you lots,
Bob and Dale

Love you both back! And for being under such duress, you guys were amazing hosts. For christ's sake, Dale, you have cancer and yet you still got the Higuchi cousins's singing karaoke which I consider a Herculean feat. Not sure if you noticed at the end that along with not relinquishing the microphones or music binder, we also got my parent's to crawl around and change CD's for us while we just sat on the couch. It was just hilarious and very wrong. ;p

Bob, you're an incredible human being and Dale, despite how you feel, you look fabulous which tells me that after a bit of a fight, you'll be back on your feet. Keep up all your hard work. Hope to see you some time soon when I can get back down there.
